Implementation of Reservation Rules in Case of Admission to Universities

 The Govt. of West Bengal Higher Education Department (University Branch), Bikash Bhaban, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091 has issued a circular on 04/03/2014 bearing the memo no. 267-Edn(U)/1U-89/13 in exercising the powers conferred by Section 9 of the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission), Act, 2013 for all the State Higher Educational Institutions coming under the purview of the aforesaid Act and the Rules informing them that they should take immediate steps in implementing the provisions of the Act and the Rules so that reservation in all categories is given effect from the academic session 2014-15 by increasing the number of seats, within the available infrastructure. During allocation of seats to each reserved category as defined under the Act, it should be kept in mind by every institution that the percentage of reservation applicable to each reserved category (SC-22%, ST-6%) under the Act, shall be in commensurate with the overall number of seats being increased in each course/ faculty. For OBC-A (10%) and OBC-B (7%) seats, implementation will be done over a six year period commencing from 2014-15. Through this circular every such institution is accordingly directed to submit a detailed proposal as per the Proforma enclosed within one month of issue of this circular.
